Feminine Architecture: Photo show by Nora Lowinsky and Haley Golden

The upcoming exhibition, Feminine Architecture, by Nora Lowinsky and Haley Golden opens this Friday, January 20, 5-7pm at the Alchemy Bottle Shop - 3256 Grand Ave in Oakland.

The collaboration photo exhibition by the California-based self taught artists is more a celebration of their friendship and woman/sisterhood through their perspectives and visions of their work.

Haley's subjects are her physical environments and structures, in nature and urban settings - the architecture around her. Haley's images reveal a sensitivity to the spontaneous drama of her surroundings. They are both unpredictable and inevitable.

Complimenting Haley's work, Nora's subjects are female figures, their bodies, and spirit. Using analog color and black and white film, her improvised compositions with her subjects in open environments perform an act of surrender to the elements and universe.

The artists consider their mission of supporting female creativity and comradery especially relevant in the dawn of Trumpism, a time marked by uncertainty and disturbing misogyny. Although the opening reception was scheduled months ago when the reality of the election results was unthinkable, its coincidence with the inauguration weekend is powerful. Feminine Architecture urges us to acknowledge the female artists's prescient instinctual voice and vision.
