Tiffanie Turner: de Young May AIR

Tiffanie Turner is May's Artist in Residence at the de Young Museum. I first met Tiffanie two years ago, when she was working on her show Heads at Rare Device. And now from time to time I run into her in the neighborhood. Her work quickly blossomed on everyone's radar, from local newspapers, globally distributed magazines, galleries, and museums. Tiffanie meticulously cuts, folds, glues, and dyes her papers to create large sculptural flowers. The scale of her work is impressive and you can image how long it takes to make her pieces.

The de Young's Artist Studio Program has been supporting and promoting the work of many local artists, and we are really stoked about it. Last month we saw work by Chad Hasegawa, and next month in the residency will be Jane Kim of Ink Dwell.

This Friday, 5/27, from 6-8:30pm a reception will be held for Tiffanie's residency exhibiting her work in the de Young's Kimball Education Gallery/Artist Studio.

Tiffanie was working on a flower with petals she invited the public to help make.

Before Tiffanie dove into making paper flower sculptures, she painted them.
